The Mościce railroad station in Tarnow, which has been closed for years, has been entered in the register of historical monuments. According to the Office for Historic Preservation, it is one of the few typical examples of modernist architecture in the region. Not only does it have a lot of historical and aesthetic value, but it is also a remnant of communist-era architecture, so it deserves this distinction.
The Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Krakow has decided to include the Mościce train station, located in Tarnow, on the list of monuments. The station had stood closed since 2017. According toRadioKrakow, reports from the Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments in Krakow indicate that PKP S.A. opposed the listing of the building, and in recent years wanted to sell it. The decision to include the building in the list of monuments is legally binding.
An additional artistic value of the station is the detailed furnishings in terms of aesthetics and materials used. The interior of the building impresses with its comprehensively designed and maintained decor without transformation, identical to the architecture of the building. Despite the fact that it is a work created at a time limited by construction standards and technical capabilities presenting the style of a bygone era, the "Mościcie" station still impresses with the uniqueness of the architectural and aesthetic solutions used, " Magdalena Miszczyk, spokeswoman for the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Krakow, told Radio Krakow.
The "Mościcie" station is located in the western part of Tarnów, in the Mościce district. It was built in the 1970s - as a result of the expansion of a pre-existing building. During the modernization of the station at the time, a new underpass was also built, importantly: for pedestrians only. In turn, during the modernization of the E30 railroad line on the Podłęże-Rzeszów Zachodni section in 2015, the platforms at the station were demolished. At that time, a thorough renovation was carried out in the underpass and on the tracks.
Recall that entry in the register of monuments in practice means, among other things, that the owner of a historic building cannot carry out any work in its area without official permission from the conservator of monuments.
